The game was to celebrate the home teams Centenary and had originally been scheduled for January 1991 but the pitch had been water-logged. Taylor gave the home team the lead in the nineteenth minute. Steve Mulrain equalised after thirty-six minutes to leave the scores level at half-time. Marcus Philpott replaced him at Inside Right at half-time. Three minutes into the second half a Shildon defender put the ball into his own net under pressure from Steve Nicholson. Five minutes later Damian Henderson made it 3-1 when he rounded off a move involving Mark Dickinson and Patrick O'Connell. In other substitutions, Iso Budimir replaced Scott Nicholls at Centre Forward after seventy-five minutes and Matthew Flanagan replaced Clarkson at Left Back after eighty-four minutes.
